Self-Discovery

This week I mentioned my mammoth collection of To-Be-Tried Recipes. The successful Japanese One-Pot inspired an attempt to organize and catalogue these recipes. My neurotic side could take pleasure in methodically going through the stack.
I grabbed both binders and sat down to create an organized log.

And after the first binder...I drowned. There is too much!

Here is what I'm up against:

Recipe Collection

Not to mention the actual cookbooks that line my shelves.

Cookbook Collection

I love to eat. I love to cook. I do both all the time. What's the problem?

I love reading recipes, researching new techniques and looking for interesting flavor combinations or variations on something I've done before. I (almost) never stay faithful to a recipe. When I look back at previous posts, I sound like a broken record- "I've made a few modifications...." over and over and over.

I guess if I'm honest, I don't enjoy following recipes. I love reading them, but not following. I hate turning around to read while I'm cooking. I'd rather read about something and fudge my way through than follow a recipe.

The kitchen is one place where I live a little dangerously. I read and learn, do the research and teach myself, but at crunch time I'd rather wing it. I'm Dr. Jekyll in life, and Mr. Hyde at the stove.

Who knew that a journey into recipe land would create such self-discovery??

Tomorrow I will be at the BlogHer Conference in San Francisco all day. I cannot wait to soak up knowledge and rub elbows with great bloggers from around the country. I have some calling cards to give if I have the opportunity! Cute huh? I'm sorry for the focus, I tried for a while but could not get it properly.

I'll be up early to get to the City for registration at 8. Sessions end at 3:45, followed by a snack break and closing remarks. If any of you out there are going too, I'd love to meet you! Give me a shout, or if you happen to recognize me don't be shy!

Hi VeggieGirl!

I'm pretty sure I wasn't invited specially, I just signed up! Granted, it's conveniently taking place in my backyard; I probably wouldn't be able to travel to it if it wasn't in SF. But look out, I know you'll be at the next one!!

Aaah, I should be going, too. I'm a relatively new blogger and I just live down the road in San Jose, but I've got the in-laws in town and I just can't ditch them.

Have fun, and do a post when you return about how it went!

I'm so jealous! I wish I could go! I saw the pic of you and Kath up on her blog, thats awesome! I can't wait to hear alllll about it! I love fudging the ingredients when cooking! I think thats the reason cooking is better than baking, baking is a science, cooking is an art!
