Tardy Weekend Bites

Late I know! It's already Tuesday.

Heirloom Tomato

Yesterday was consumed by online traffic school. I got a speeding ticket in June (my first ticket ever!) and I'd been putting it off. I put my nose to the grindstone and emerged right before dinner victorious, finished and passing with a 92%! I'm so glad it's done, but I didn't do anything else all day.

We had a delicious food-filled weekend, but guess what? NO PICTURES! Yes, I enjoyed it all immensely but only took people pictures. I shall have to rely on my powers of description for the food.

Friday evening

We noshed on Chickpea Veggie Burgers for dinner. In true carnivore form, NH would rather have a 'real' burger.

Saturday

Breakfast included these delicious figs, along with plain yogurt sprinkled with cinnamon and a homemade latte.

Fig Crossing

Kadota figs have this beautiful green skin with ruby-red flesh inside. They are harder to find than Black Mission or Brown Turkey but please give them a try if you see them.

For lunch at my parents' house in Los Gatos, I sampled a new brand of oatmeal: Bob's Red Mill Quick Scottish Oatmeal.

Bob's Red Mill Scottish Oatmeal

These are quick-cooking steel cut oats; Mom uses them to make oatmeal pancakes. It satisfied my need for oatmeal but was too finely ground, a bit like cream of wheat. More texture was needed.

In the afternoon we hit Los Gatos' Fiesta de Artes, my hometown's answer to the summer Art & Wine festival. We met C and K at the festival for a little wine and some dinner.

I only tasted two wines at the festival, and my favorite was a Sauvignon Blanc from Thomas Fogarty. Music was provided by a Beach Boys cover band; they were pretty good!

An early dinner was consumed at Cin Cin, a new wine bar in town.

Foods consumed:

Artisan Cheese board with 2 cheeses, fig bread, quince jam, warm honey, apples, nut bread, and spiced walnuts

Portuguese table wine

Cilantro Soba Noodle Wraps

Huevos Diablos (spicy deviled eggs)

NH and I at Cin Cin Wine Bar (check out my review on Yelp!)

Sunday

Food on Sunday was preceded by Padma's first trip outside. First let me explain:

We had the idea that she might need more stimulation in life since she's an indoor cat. She has a few behavior issues with strangers that stem from fear, so we thought a bigger universe would equal less fear. We don't want her to run loose so we got the most hilarious cat harness and leash. We've become those people that walk their cat.

At first she was scared but explored most of the patio before going inside. Still, I think we got more entertainment than she did.

Breakfast and Lunch

Apple Oatmeal and Minestrone soup (from a can)- not too exciting

Dinner

Apus Wok & Grill, an Asian Fusion restaurant on El Camino Real. Bad location, great food! I hope their business does ok. (review on Yelp! too)

Food Consumed:

NH: Hot and Sour Soup, Mango Lemonade, Thai Grilled Chicken with Peanut Sauce over Udon Noodles

Me: Salinas Fresh Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, potatoes, greens) with Soy Garlic Sauce over Spinach Noodles

After Dinner: Frozen Yogurt!

Caramel Marshmallow Cream and Tart Boysenberry

Ah! I would love a beach boys cover band! Sounds like a fun and eventful weekend!! That cat leash cracks me up! She probably loved that adventure! I can't wait to move and be near new restaurants! We already have a list going of some of the ones we want to visit!
