Sweet Treat for Me

I really love panettone; It's an indulgent treat around the holidays.

For those unfamiliar, panettone is an Italian sweet bread. It's tall and filled with fruit and spices. There are many variations on the recipe, but my favorite contains Fiori di Sicilia, a flavor like vanilla with an elusive citrus scent. The dough is like a brioche and it bakes into an aromatic, golden treat.
Perfect with a cappucino on Christmas morning.

You see them all over the stores in December- good and bad. I made one last year with Mom that was pretty delicious; others I've had were made by friends and family. I'm not familiar with any store-brand in particular.
Much as I'd love to eat an entire panettone myself, that would not be good for the waistline. :-)

This little guy from Whole Foods is a perfect sample for me. He comes in a larger size too, so if it's good maybe I'll graduate. . . or just buy another small one. :-) I hope he's good.

Fiori di Sicilia can be hard to find, but you can order it from King Arthur Flour. I highly recommend it, it can be used in any baking where you use vanilla and the flavors compliment each other.

I've seen that mini guy at WF. I love Pannetone, but in a box they can be so hit or miss. Let us know how it is, please!
